Short answer
- Budget €1,713 4 nights, 2 travellers
- Mid-range €2,211 4 nights, 2 travellers
- Comfort €4,383 4 nights, 2 travellers
Yes, it costs more than average. France's prices for eating out and hotels are 110 % of the EU average, by Eurostat's national index. In Paris, the hotel is the biggest cost of a mid-range or comfort trip. In our 2026 study a 4-star room for two cost a median €227 a night. For two people at mid-range, 4 nights cost about €2,211, or €1,106 each. On a budget it is about €1,713, in comfort about €4,383. On the budget trip, the two default sights (€611) cost a bit more than the hotel (€568). In our sample the month mattered a lot: a 4-star room cost €166 in January and €388 in June. We read two mostly mid-month nights per month, months ahead, and April is not in the sample. Flights to Paris are not included in any of these totals, so add your own fare on top.
How to spend less in Paris
- Go in January. In our sample, a 4-star room cost a median €166 a night that month. In June it was €388, more than twice as much. We read two mostly mid-month nights per month, months ahead. April is not in the sample.
- Look at 3-star hotels. A separate search, filtered to 3-star hotels, gave a median night of €142. In the main list, a 4-star night was €227. The two searches may not show the same mix of hotels, so treat the gap as a rough guide.
- Buy a day pass only if you take a fifth ride. A metro ticket costs €2.55 and the all-zone day pass €12.30. The pass pays off from your fifth ride of the day.
- Eat your main meal at lunch. Guides list set lunch menus and cheap meals at €15 to €28. A mid-range dinner is about €31 per person, but that rests on 2 sources only.
- Compare show and cruise prices. From-prices differ widely. An evening cruise on the Seine starts at €17, without dinner. The Moulin Rouge dinner show starts at €255 per person, dinner included. We found only 2 listings for it.
- Drink your coffee at the bar. The Paris tourist office says a small coffee costs €1 at the bar and €2 sitting down.
We left flights to Paris out of this study, so every total here covers costs on the ground only. For a rough idea, PartirOu, a French fare tracker, put a round trip between Paris and New York at about €600 per person on average. The cheapest fare it found was €339. It worked these out in mid-October 2026 from searches on its site for trips starting in Paris, over the four weeks before. They are its figures, not our measurement. A trip that starts in New York, or in another US city, can cost more or less, and fares change with your dates. So add your own flights on top.
What a Paris trip costs for two
For two people at mid-range, Paris costs about €1,826 for 3 nights, €2,211 for 4 nights and €3,370 for 7 nights. That is about €1,685 each for a full week, flights not included.
Each row is the same 4-night trip for two. The hotel is the median of all prices we read for the style's star class, not an average of months. It counts two meals out each a day, the two default sights, a day pass each day, the airport ticket both ways and the tourist tax. Two people share one room. A solo traveler pays for a whole room alone, so the cost per person goes up. A group of three or four needs two rooms.
| Style | Hotel | Eating out | Activities | Transport, airport, tax | Total | Per person per night |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Budget 3-star hotel, cheap meals | €568 | €336 | €611 | €198 | €1,713 | €214 |
| Mid-range Our default 4-star hotel, mid-range meals | €906 | €496 | €611 | €198 | €2,211 | €276 |
| Comfort 5-star hotel, one fine dinner a day | €2,526 | €1,048 | €611 | €198 | €4,383 | €548 |

Hotel prices in Paris by month
A hotel room for two in Paris cost a median €227 a night at 4-star, €142 at 3-star and €632 at 5-star in our study. For a 4-star hotel, January 2027 was the cheapest of the 10 months we ranked (€166) and June 2027 the dearest (€388).
We read 2,019 hotel-night prices of 518 hotels on Google Hotels on 24 October 2026. We checked one Tuesday and one Saturday night each month, from October 2026 to September 2027, for 2 adults in one room. April is left out. The nights were mostly mid-month, so holiday and event weeks are not in the sample. We could not confirm whether these prices include taxes, fees or breakfast, or whether you can cancel them. The calculator adds the tourist tax on top. The 4-star figures rest on 310 prices of 104 hotels, and the 5-star figures on 320 prices of 59 hotels. Both come from Google's main hotel list. The 3-star figures come from a second search, filtered to 3-star hotels: 612 prices of 179 hotels. So the three classes are not one like-for-like ladder. The middle half of 4-star nights cost €175 to €313.
By month and star class
Google shows a different mix of hotels for each date. So we only compare months within one star class. The cheapest and dearest months are ranked over the 10 months with no note. For 3-star hotels, the filtered search put February and December about equal at the low end (€106 and €107). June was highest (€211). Read that ranking with care: the filtered search shows only the first 3-star hotels Google lists.
| Month | 3-star | 4-star | 5-star |

About these numbers
Medians per room per night for 2 adults, as Google Hotels showed them. Each month rests on two nights only, one Tuesday and one Saturday. We read every price once, on 24 October 2026, so later months were read further ahead. Prices closer to your dates may be higher or lower. Each month rests on few prices: 36 to 62 at 3-star, 21 to 36 at 4-star and 17 to 44 at 5-star. So treat every month as a rough guide.
Weekends
How we compared weekends
In our sample, Paris hotels did not charge more on a Saturday than on a Tuesday. We did not check other weeknights. For each month, we set one hotel's Saturday price next to its price on the Tuesday before (442 pairs). Only hotels with a price on both dates count. Of these, 145 pairs are hotels without a star class, so the class figures add up to fewer. The median gap was 0 %, and 44 % of hotels asked more for the Saturday. Month by month, the median ran from -10.4 % in February to 7 % in September.
Hotels worth a look (ratings from Booking.com)
- Louvre and Opéra (1st, 2nd, 9th) Hotel des Arts - Cite Bergere
A hotel on the quiet Cité Bergère lane in the 9th, 260 m from Grands Boulevards metro and a short walk from the Musée Grévin, with a 24-hour front desk.
- Le Marais (3rd, 4th) The People - Paris Marais
A stay on Boulevard Morland in the 4th, 900 m from the Opéra Bastille, with a shared kitchen and lounge, a terrace, a restaurant and a bar.
- Latin Quarter and Saint-Germain (5th, 6th) Familia Hotel
A hotel on rue des Écoles in the Latin Quarter, 600 m from Notre-Dame and a 3-minute walk from Maubert-Mutualité metro; some rooms look out on the cathedral.
- Eiffel Tower area (7th, 15th) YOOMA Urban Lodge Tour Eiffel
A hotel on the Quai de Grenelle in the 15th, 1.1 km from the Eiffel Tower, designed with Daniel Buren, with a restaurant, a lounge bar and some rooms with beds and capsules designed by Ora Ito.
Each of these scores 8 or more on Booking.com. We did not price them, so no price is shown. Which area is cheapest? Outside the centre, for the 4-star rooms we could compare by area. In our sample a 4-star room for two in the north and east (10th, 11th, 18th to 20th) cost a median €145 a night. In central Paris (1st to 8th) it cost €263, so the north and east was about 45% cheaper. In the south (13th to 15th) it was €180. In our default mid-range trip the room is the biggest line: €906 of €2,211. So the area you pick shows in your total. We placed each hotel by its map position, so the areas and their arrondissement names are rough. The samples are small: 35 prices from 11 hotels in the north and east, and 40 prices from 13 hotels in the south. The star class is the other big lever: a 3-star night cost a median €142, and a 4-star night €227. For a budget stay, our guide to where to stay in Paris points to simple hotels in Montmartre and to rooms with a kitchen, such as The People in Le Marais. A kitchen lets you skip some meals out, and a cheap meal costs about €21 per person (3 sources, €15 to €28).

How much food costs in Paris
A cheap meal in Paris costs about €21, dinner at a mid-range restaurant about €31 and an upmarket dinner about €100 per person. The mid-range figure rests on 2 sources only, and one of them gives the price of a main dish, so it is a thin guide. Upmarket dinners in the sources run from €68 to €400, a wide spread.
These figures are cited, not measured by us. Guides and food-tour sites publish them, and we quote them word for word. The pages show no date, so we give the day we read them, 24 October 2026. The calculator uses the middle figure of each group, with each source counted once.
| Meal | Used in the calculator | Published figures |

What the big sights and tours cost in Paris
The median from-price of a tour or ticket for the big Paris sights is about €17.60 for Notre-Dame and €55 for the Eiffel Tower, per person. These are our own figures: the lowest listed price of each tour on GetYourGuide, read on 24 October 2026, as a median per page. The median from-price is about €67 for a Louvre tour and €70 for Versailles. For a full day to Omaha Beach and the other D-Day sites it is €215. The calculator offers one tour per page, so its prices can be lower. For the summit, guided climbs and dinner, see Eiffel Tower restaurant and summit tickets. For the Louvre and Versailles, a plain ticket from the sight itself costs less than the median tour. The Louvre charges €32 per adult for visitors who do not live in or hold a passport from the European Economic Area (the EU plus Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway). That includes visitors from the US, the UK and Switzerland. Visitors from the area pay €22. The Versailles Passport, for the palace, Trianon and gardens in one day, is €35 per adult from April to October. The Paris Museum Pass covers the Louvre, Versailles and many other museums: €85 for two days in a row, €105 for four and €125 for six, counted from the first visit. Pass holders still book a free time slot or ticket at some sights, for example Versailles. These are official prices from the sights' own websites and the Pass's own website, read on 24 October 2026, not our measurement.

How much a rental car costs in Paris
Rental and travel sites put the average rental car in Paris at €55 to €72 a day.
These are cited figures from 3 rental and travel sites, not our own. Their bases differ: one is an airport branch, one a small car, one a plain average. So read them as a rough guide. The calculator uses the low figure for budget and mid-range and the high one for comfort. Insurance, fuel, tolls and parking are not included.
- €55 a day:
On average, car rentals in Paris cost around €55 per day
roadgenius.com - €40–€70 a day: middle
a compact rental car in Paris typically costs around €40–€70 per day
vivastour.com - €72 a day:
Average Daily Price EUR 72 /day
hertz.co.uk
Advertised minimums, not typical prices: from €29 a day (easyterra.com) · from €26 a day (francecarrental.fr).
You rarely need a car in Paris itself. The metro and RER trains reach the main sights, and a car helps most for trips into the countryside.
Tourist tax, metro and airport fares
The calculator uses the 3-star tax rate of €5.53 for every style. At a 4-star hotel the rate is €8.45 per adult per night, and at a 5-star hotel €11.70. So mid-range and comfort trips pay a little more tax than shown. We could not confirm a cap on nights or an age limit, so the calculator counts everyone, every night.
Key findings of the 2026 Paris Travel Cost Study
- Restaurant and hotel prices across France were 110 % of the EU average in 2024, according to Eurostat's price level index (EU = 100). This is a national figure, not Paris alone.
-
In our sample of 2,019 Google Hotels hotel-night prices (518 hotels, stays from October 2026 to September 2027, April 2027 left out), a 4-star night in Paris cost a median €227 per room for two adults (310 prices), with the middle half between €175 and €313. A 5-star night cost a median €632 (320 prices); a 3-star night, from a separate search filtered to 3-star hotels, €142
(612 prices). - In our sample, 4-star rooms priced for one Tuesday and one Saturday in June 2027 had a median of €388 a night, against €166 in January 2027, the cheapest of the 10 months we could compare (134% more). All prices were read on 24 October 2026, months ahead of the stay.
- In our sample, Paris hotels showed no Saturday premium: comparing the same hotel on a Saturday and the Tuesday before it (442 pairs, one Tuesday and one Saturday per month, only hotels priced on both dates), the median difference was 0 %, and 44 % of hotels charged more on the Saturday.
- Guides and food-tour companies publish prices of €15 to €28 for a cheap meal, €18 to €48 for dinner at a mid-range restaurant, and €68 to €400 per person for fine dining.
- Published average prices for a rental car in Paris disagree widely: 3 car-rental and travel sites state between €55 and €72 a day, on different bases (an airport branch, a typical compact car, a general average). The real price depends on the dates, the car, insurance and fuel.
- Our calculator puts a mid-range trip of 4 nights for two at about €2,211: one shared 4-star room at the all-year median, two meals out a day each, two tours at their from-prices, a daily public-transport pass, the airport ticket both ways and the tourist tax at the 3-star rate. Flights, breakfast and drinks are not included.

What we measured ourselves
- Hotels: 2,019 prices of 518 hotels on Google Hotels, read on 24 October 2026. One Tuesday and one Saturday night per month, October 2026 to September 2027, 2 adults, one room; paid ads, listings without a price and duplicates left out. These are the prices advertised for those dates when we read them, not what guests later paid. Months are compared within a star class because Google shows a different set of hotels for each date. October 2026 was read at short notice; both are shown but not ranked. Star classes: Google's default hotel list for Paris (depth 60) held only 7-17 priced 3-star prices a month, too few to compare months within the 3-star class; so we added one extra Google Hotels search per night filtered to 3-star (depth 20; Google returned 36 listings, 15-34 new priced 3-star hotels per night), same dates, 2 adults, one room; only hotels Google labels 3-star are kept, and hotels already in the main search for that date are not counted twice. 13 April 2027 came back empty (612 of the 2,019 prices). These count for the 3-star figures only, from the filtered rows alone in every month (main-search 3-star rows stay in the all-hotel figures); the all-hotel figures, the 4- and 5-star figures and month sample sizes use the main search alone: the all-hotel median rests on 1,407 prices. 2027-04 is not in the sample: Google Hotels priced only 18 hotels for Tuesday 13 April 2027 in the main search (20 needed per night), and the night came back empty when read again at depth 100 and with the 3-star filter, so April 2027 is left out of the study (11 months); its rows are kept in raw/hotels-2027-04-not-used.csv.
- Activities: the "from" prices of the 155 tours and tickets on our 25 activity pages (the table above), as shown on GetYourGuide on 24 October 2026; the calculator offers 12 tours, one per activity page. A "from" price is the lowest option a listing offers, not a typical price.
What we cite
- Meals, drinks and car hire: figures published by travel guides, food-tour companies and rental platforms, found in Google results in France and quoted word for word with their date. A range counts with its midpoint, each source once per group. No figures from forums or social media. The beer prices rest on one source only. None comes from a page that shows a date in 2022 or earlier; many pages show no date at all.
- Tourist tax, fares: the Paris tourist office, Île-de-France Mobilités.
- Price level: Eurostat, price level index for restaurants and hotels (EU = 100), 2024.
How the calculator adds up
- Our default trip: 4 nights, two people in one room, mid-range. The hotel is the median of all 4-star prices we read, not an average of months. So months with more prices weigh more. That figure includes October 2026, read at short notice, and has no April prices. The trip includes the Moulin Rouge dinner show (€255) and the Eiffel Tower, second floor or summit (from €51), per person, at their lowest listed prices, and no car. The budget and comfort trips include the same two sights. The sights count once, however many nights you stay. Each night counts as one day of meals and one day pass. We did not compare multi-ride or weekly tickets. Both meals of the day use the style's meal price, so lunch costs as much as dinner. The show includes dinner, but that day still counts two meals out, so food runs a little high. In comfort style, each person has one upmarket dinner (€100) and one mid-range meal (€31) a day. Everyone counts as an adult: for the tax, fares and tour prices, and the hotel is priced for 2 adults. The month changes the hotel line only. Flights to Paris, breakfast and drinks are left out. The totals cover costs on the ground in Paris, so add your own flights on top.
- Hotel: nights × rooms (one per two travellers) × the median for the style's star class in that month (or the whole year).
- Eating out: nights × travellers × meals a day at the style's meal price; in comfort, one fine dinner a day and the other meals at mid-range prices.
- Car: days × the style's daily price. Activities: the from-price per person or per group.
- Tourist tax: travelers × nights × €5.53, the 3-star rate, in every style. The 4-star and 5-star rates are higher, so this line runs low for those styles.
- Transport: nights × travellers × the 24-hour pass; airport: two Airport train or bus rides per traveller (€14 each, one there and one back), counted separately, so arrival and departure days may count a ride twice.
Each line is rounded to whole euros.
Paris trip costs: your questions
How much will a trip to Paris cost?
For two people at mid-range, plan on about €276 per person per night for a 4-night trip. That covers a shared 4-star room, two meals out, two big sights, a day pass, the airport ticket and the tax. A budget trip of the same length comes to about €214, and comfort to about €548. A trip of 5 nights for two comes to about €2,598. Flights are extra. Work out your own trip.
Is Paris expensive?
Yes, above the EU average. Hotels are the largest single cost in mid-range and comfort trips. A 4-star room for two cost a median €227 a night in our study, and €388 in June. On a budget trip, the two default sights cost a bit more than the 3-star hotel. For France as a whole, Eurostat's index for eating out and hotels is 110 % of the EU average (2024), a national figure. Italy is at 106.9, Spain at 83.9.
Is food expensive in Paris?
It can be, but lunch is cheaper. Guides list cheap meals and set lunch menus at €15 to €28 per person. Dinner at a mid-range restaurant is about €31, from 2 sources only. An upmarket dinner runs from €68 to €400. A coffee costs about €1.50. See the sources.
What is the cheapest way to get around Paris?
Walk when you can, and take the metro. We checked two fares. A single metro ticket costs €2.55. The all-zone day pass costs €12.30, so it pays off from the fifth ride of the day. We did not compare multi-ride or weekly tickets. The calculator counts a day pass for every day. The airport ticket is €14 each way. More in our guide to getting around Paris.
What is the best month to visit Paris?
For hotel prices, January, in our sample. A 4-star room cost a median €166 a night then. In June, the dearest of the 10 months we ranked, it cost €388. For 3-star hotels, February and December were about equal at the low end in a filtered search. We read each month on two mostly mid-month nights only, months ahead. April is not in the sample.
Is 7 days too much for Paris?
Not if you add a day trip or two. A week (7 nights) for two at mid-range costs about €3,370 with the same two sights. That is €241 per person per night. It is less per night than a short trip, because the calculator counts the two sights once, however long you stay. A day trip adds to that: Versailles starts at €70 per person. More ideas are in our day trips from Paris.
How much does a week in Paris cost for one person?
On a budget, a week (7 nights) alone costs about €1,747, flights not included. That counts a 3-star room, two cheap meals out a day, the two default sights, a day pass, the airport train both ways and the tax. The room is the biggest part: €994, because you pay for it alone. Skip the two sights and you save €306. This page shows euros only. To compare with a budget in dollars, convert at today's rate. Try your own trip.
How much should I budget per day in Paris?
Plan on about €214 per person per day on a budget, and €276 at mid-range. Those figures are for two people sharing a room on a 4-night trip. They cover the hotel, two meals out, the two default sights, a day pass, the airport ticket and the tax. Alone, you pay for the room by yourself: a budget week comes to about €250 a day. So a daily budget well below these figures will not cover a hotel room as well. Flights are extra.
