Which Paris airport: CDG, Orly or Beauvais

Paris has three airports for passenger flights: Charles de Gaulle (CDG, also called Roissy), Orly and Beauvais. That count is our summary of the operators’ own sites. Beauvais is a separate airport, run by its own company.

CDG has the most links into the city: the RER B, the express bus and flat-fare taxis. Orly is on metro line 14. From Beauvais, the shuttle bus takes about 1 h 15 min or more.

CDG has two RER B stations, says Paris Aéroport. CDG 1 serves Terminals 1 and 3. CDG 2 serves Terminal 2 and the TGV station. The free CDGVal shuttle train links the terminals, the stations and the car parks.

CDG 2 serves Terminal 2 and the TGV station. The free CDGVal shuttle train links the terminals, the stations and the car parks.

Airport hotel or a hotel in town?

We list no airport hotels. A hotel in town puts you near the sights, so you make the airport trip only twice.

Areas on the RER B or line 14 are easiest from the airports: see where to stay in Paris.

Airport to the city: train, bus, taxi or Uber

From CDG, take the RER B train. It costs €14 with the Paris Region–Airports ticket. Trains run every 6 to 15 minutes, from about 4:50 a.m. to midnight. The ride takes about 25 minutes to Gare du Nord and about 28 to Châtelet–Les Halles.

RoissyBus stopped for good on 1 March 2026. The express bus 9517 and the RER B replace it. Bus 9517 runs from Saint-Denis-Pleyel (metro lines 13 and 14) to RoissyPôle in about 30 minutes. It takes a €2.05 Bus-Tram ticket.

Buses 350 and 351 are the cheapest way, on the same Bus-Tram ticket, but road traffic makes the ride 60 to 90 minutes.

From Orly, take metro line 14. It reaches central Paris in about 20 to 25 minutes, says Île-de-France Mobilités. It takes the same €14 airport ticket. Orlybus has not run since 3 March 2025, says Paris Aéroport. Tram T7 from Villejuif–Louis Aragon (metro 7) takes about 45 minutes.

From Orly, take metro line 14. It reaches central Paris in about 20 to 25 minutes, says Île-de-France Mobilités. It takes the same €14 airport ticket.

From Beauvais, take the Aérobus shuttle to Porte Maillot. It costs €17.90 one way online, or €18 at the airport. It leaves about 20 minutes after each landing and waits for late flights.

Taxis: flat fares from the airports

Taxis charge a flat fare between the airports and Paris, set by a 2026 decree. A taxi from CDG costs €56 to the Right Bank and €65 to the Left Bank. From Orly, it costs €45 to the Right Bank and €36 to the Left Bank.

Booking adds €4 for a taxi now or €7 for one booked ahead. From the 5th passenger, each extra person pays €5.50. Paris Aéroport says the flat fare covers Paris only; trips to the suburbs use the meter.

Only take a taxi from the official rank. The local tourist office says to turn down people in arrivals who offer you a ride.

2026 taxi flat fares (French government)
FromTo the Right BankTo the Left Bank
CDG€56€65
Orly€45€36

Uber and ride-hail cars

Yes, Uber works in Paris and at CDG, says Uber. Book in the app after you land. Then follow the app’s walking directions to the pickup zone, which differs by terminal.

Ride-hail cars must be booked ahead, says the EU consumer centre. They cannot be hailed in the street or use taxi ranks. The taxi flat fare does not cover them, so check the price in the app first.

Private airport transfer, compared

A private transfer is the easiest choice with kids or lots of bags. The driver meets you and takes you to one address. Our pick starts from €98 per group of up to 2 people.

Compare it with a taxi. A taxi from CDG costs €56 or €65 flat, plus €4 or €7 to book. The transfer is booked ahead and has free cancellation. Extra or oversized bags cost more, so say what you bring.

Public transport in Paris: metro, RER, bus, tram and Batobus

The metro and RER trains are the fastest way around Paris. One Métro-Train-RER ticket costs €2.55. It lets you change between metro, RER and train for 2 hours, as long as you stay in the network. It does not cover a change to a bus or tram.

Buses and trams take the €2.05 Bus-Tram ticket, with changes for 1 h 30 min.

Going to the tower? The RER C stops at Champ de Mars–Tour Eiffel, and line 6 at Bir-Hakeim. Take either for your Eiffel Tower summit ticket.

Line 2 to Blanche stops at the Moulin Rouge, the best-known Paris cabaret.

The Batobus is a river shuttle with 9 stops, from the Eiffel Tower to the Jardin des Plantes. A 24-hour pass costs €23 on the official site, or €13 for a child. For a proper cruise, see our Seine river cruises.

Passes and tickets: what to buy for how many days

For a short stay, buy single tickets or a day pass. A single ride costs €2.55, and the Navigo day pass €12.30. Count the rides you plan, then pick.

Buy tickets in the Île-de-France Mobilités app, or load them on a Navigo Easy card. The card costs €2 at ticket offices. It holds up to 20 tickets of one kind.

For the airports, buy the €14 Paris Region–Airports ticket. The €2.55 ticket and the day pass are not valid there.

You can tap a bank card on most buses now. On the metro, tap-to-pay comes from 2027. A tap costs more than a ticket and includes no changes.

Walking Paris: when it beats the metro

Walk when the next sight is close. We found no official walking distances, so here are a few sure tips.

At the Arc de Triomphe, use the Passage du Souvenir. It is an underground passage from the top of the Champs-Élysées. Do not cross the roundabout.

The Tuileries Garden is free to walk through. Its hours change with the season.

In Montmartre, the walk up the steps to Sacré-Cœur takes about 20 minutes, an older official page says. The funicular is the other way up, on a metro ticket.

Hop-on hop-off bus: sightseeing with transport built in

A hop-on hop-off bus is a sightseeing ride, not daily transport. It runs a loop past the big sights, with audio commentary. The Navigo day pass does not cover tourist buses.

Tootbus passes run for 1 to 3 days, from €37. Big Bus passes run for 24 or 48 hours, from €39. Both sell a version with a 1-hour Seine cruise.

The Batobus does the same on the river, from €23 for 24 hours.

Day trips on your own: train, bus or car

Most day trips from Paris are easy by train. Versailles and Disneyland Paris need only a €2.55 Métro-Train-RER ticket each way.

  • Versailles: the RER C goes to Versailles Château–Rive Gauche, a 10-minute walk from the palace. Trains from Saint-Lazare go to Versailles Rive Droite, about a 17-minute walk.
  • Disneyland Paris: the RER A goes to Marne-la-Vallée–Chessy, about 35 minutes from Nation, the resort says. The parks are a 2-minute walk from the station.
  • Giverny: trains from Saint-Lazare reach Vernon-Giverny in about 50 minutes. A shuttle covers the last 5 km. In 2026 the house and gardens were open from 1 April to 1 November; they are closed in winter.
  • Reims: the TGV from Gare de l’Est takes about 45 minutes.
  • Bayeux: trains from Saint-Lazare reach Bayeux in about 2 h 18. Omaha Beach is about 20 km further.
  • Mont-Saint-Michel: the TGV from Montparnasse to Rennes takes about 2 hours. Then a bus takes about 1 h 10 min.

Paris train stations for day trips

Each day trip leaves from its own station. Check the station on your ticket.

  • Saint-Lazare: Giverny (Vernon-Giverny) and Bayeux
  • Montparnasse: Rennes for Mont-Saint-Michel, and Versailles Chantiers
  • Gare de l’Est: Reims
  • Austerlitz: Blois, for Chambord in the Loire Valley

When a rental car makes sense

You do not need a car in Paris itself. The metro is faster, and a Crit’Air air-quality sticker is required to drive in the city.

Driving to Versailles gets harder for a while. The A13 motorway is closed in the Paris → Versailles direction from 16 November 2026 to 31 August 2027.

In the 2026 Paris Travel Cost Study, 3 car rental sites put the average daily price of a rental car in Paris at €55 to €72, read on 24 October 2026. Their bases differ: one is the Charles de Gaulle airport branch. Insurance, fuel, tolls and parking come on top.

A car does make sense for Normandy, Mont-Saint-Michel, the Loire châteaux and the champagne villages. There, the sights are far apart.

For Normandy, Mont-Saint-Michel or the Loire châteaux on your own schedule, pick up a car at Charles de Gaulle airport:

Tips for getting around Paris

  1. Buy the airport ticket

The €2.55 ticket does not work at the airports. Buy the €14 Paris Region–Airports ticket for the RER B or line 14.

  2. One kind per card

A Navigo Easy card holds one kind of ticket at a time. An airport ticket cannot go on a card that already holds a metro ticket.

  3. Use the official taxi rank

Take taxis only from the official rank. Say no to people in arrivals who offer you a ride.

  4. Book ride-hail in the app

Uber and other ride-hail cars must be booked ahead. They cannot pick you up in the street or at a taxi rank.

  5. Check the day before

Big sights can close at short notice for strikes or ceremonies. Check the official site the day before.

Paris airports and transport: questions and answers

Does Uber work in Paris?

Yes. Uber works in Paris and at CDG, says Uber, and you book in the app. Ride-hail cars must be booked ahead and cannot use taxi ranks. The taxi flat fare does not cover them, so check the price in the app.

What is the main airport in Paris?

Charles de Gaulle (CDG) has the most links into the city: the RER B, the express bus and flat-fare taxis. Orly is on metro line 14. Beauvais is served by a shuttle bus that takes over an hour.

How many airports does Paris have?

Paris has three airports for passenger flights: Charles de Gaulle (CDG), Orly and Beauvais. That is our summary of the operators’ sites. Beauvais is run by its own company.

How do I get from CDG to central Paris?

Take the RER B train. It costs €14 and takes about 25 minutes to Gare du Nord. A taxi costs a flat €56 to the Right Bank or €65 to the Left Bank (2026 fares). RoissyBus no longer runs.

What is the best metro ticket for tourists?

It depends on how many rides you take. A single Métro-Train-RER ticket costs €2.55, and a Navigo day pass €12.30. Neither covers the airports. Buy them in the Île-de-France Mobilités app or on a €2 Navigo Easy card.

Do I need a rental car in Paris?

No, not for the city. The metro is faster, and you need a Crit’Air sticker to drive in Paris. A car helps for Normandy, Mont-Saint-Michel or the Loire châteaux.
