Musée d'Orsay: tickets, hours and what to see
The official Orsay ticket starts from €13 here. The Louvre Museum has its own guide; this page covers the rest.
The museum's pages list full price at €16, and €12 on Thursday evenings from 6 pm. Under-18s go free. Everyone goes free on the first Sunday of the month.
Orsay is closed on Mondays, 1 May and 25 December. Its pages give Thursday hours of 9:30 am to 9:45 pm. Last access is 5 pm on normal days and 9 pm on Thursdays.
Do you need to book a slot?
Book a slot online to be safe. The official pages differ on whether it is required. It is required on the free first Sunday.
A slot does not mean an empty room. The famous paintings draw a crowd, so give yourself time.
What to see at Orsay
The museum sits in the former Gare d'Orsay, an old railway station. It shows Renoir, Monet, Manet, Degas and Cézanne. Since February 2024, the museum says, Van Gogh hangs in rooms 36 and 37.
Musée de l'Orangerie tickets: Monet's Water Lilies
The Orangerie is where Monet's Water Lilies hang. Its pages list a general ticket at €12.50 and a combined Orsay and Orangerie ticket at €20. An online time slot is required.
It opens Wednesday to Monday, 9 am to 6 pm, with last entry at 5:15 pm. It is closed on Tuesdays, 1 May, 25 December and the morning of 14 July.
Like Orsay, it is free for everyone on the first Sunday of the month. The museum is in the Tuileries Garden.
Rodin Museum Paris tickets
A Rodin Museum ticket costs €14 on the museum's own site. The combo here covers Orsay and Rodin from €45, with skip-the-line entry at Rodin.
The museum opens Tuesday to Sunday, 10 am to 6:30 pm. Last entry is 5:45 pm, and the garden is cleared from 6:15 pm. It is closed on 1 January, 1 May and 25 December.
It is at 77 rue de Varenne. Take metro line 13 to Varenne, lines 8 or 13 to Invalides, or the RER C to Invalides.
More museums: wax figures, street art and chocolate
For a lighter visit, three museums here suit families and teens. None of them needs a long day.
Musée Grévin wax museum
The Grévin wax museum shows more than 250 famous people in wax. It is at 10 Boulevard Montmartre. The ticket here starts from €28 and is non-refundable.
Musée Banksy and the Chocolate Museum
The Banksy museum shows more than 120 street-art works at 44 Rue du Faubourg Montmartre. The Chocolate Museum, at 28 Boulevard de Bonne Nouvelle, adds samples and a kids' treasure hunt.
Is the Paris Museum Pass worth it?
Only if you visit many sights in a few days. The pass costs €85 for 2 days, €105 for 4 days or €125 for 6 days.
The pass site says you save from about the 4th visit on the 2-day pass. On the 4-day pass it is the 5th, and on the 6-day pass the 6th. It covers Orsay, the Orangerie, Rodin and more than 50 sites.
The Louvre and Versailles still need a reserved slot. Do not buy a pass for under-18s, since most sites let them in free.
EU and EEA residents under 26 enter national museums free. That rule does not cover US adults. The Centre Pompidou is closed for renovation until 2030.
