No ticket skips the security check. Big sites in Paris check every visitor.

What the rooftop ticket covers
Your ticket takes you up inside the Arc to the roof. For now that means 284 steps, as the elevator is out of service. Plan for a slow climb if you are not used to stairs.
For a higher view, compare Eiffel Tower tickets: the summit is 276 m up, the tower's site says.
Opening hours
From April to September, the Arc opens at 10 am and closes at 11 pm. From October to March, it closes at 10:30 pm. On Tuesdays it opens at 11 am. Last entry is 45 minutes before closing.
It is closed on 1 May, 8 May, 14 July and the morning of 11 November. It can also close for ceremonies or bad weather.
Arc de Triomphe tour or ticket only
For the view alone, the official €16 or €22 ticket is enough. The tours here cost from €90 and add a guide, a walk and macarons. Take one if you want the story of the avenue.
The bus combo from €63 adds a day or two of hop-on hop-off travel. That suits a first visit, when you want to see a lot of Paris.
The Champs-Élysées walk
Both walking tours here go up the Champs-Élysées to the Arc. They meet at Place Clemenceau and last about 2 hours.
One adds a free Paris guidebook. The other ends with a macaron tasting from a Paris pastry shop. In both, the guide stays below and you see the roof on your own.
Booking tips for the Arc de Triomphe
Use the underpass
Do not cross the roundabout. Walk in through the Passage du Souvenir, from the top of the Champs-Élysées or the avenue de la Grande-Armée.
Pack small
Bags may be up to 40 × 40 × 20 cm. There is no left-luggage. Glass bottles, tripods and selfie poles are not allowed.
Plan for the stairs
The elevator is out of service, so the only way up is 284 steps. Strollers can be left with staff.
Refunds if it closes
The Arc refunds online tickets by itself if it has to close. Check the official site the day before your visit.
Getting there
Take metro 1, 2 or 6, or the RER A, to Charles-de-Gaulle–Étoile.
