Which Eiffel Tower ticket do you need?

Most first-time visitors need a timed elevator ticket to the summit. It shows you the whole city from the top. Pick the stairs if you are fit and want to save money. Pick a guided tour if you want the story of the tower.

The compare table above shows the floors and the way up for each of the eight tickets.

Second floor or summit: what changes

The summit is much higher, and it costs more. The 2nd floor already has wide views over Paris. The summit adds the view from the very top.

Summit access can close in bad weather or at busy times, the tower says. So a summit ticket is never a sure thing.

Which viewing deck: 116 m or 276 m

The tower's site puts the 2nd floor at 116 m and the summit at 276 m. You reach the summit by elevator only. Most tickets here go to the 2nd floor and sell the summit as an option.

Is the summit ticket worth it?

Yes, if it is your first visit and the sky is clear. The tower's site lists €23.50 for the elevator to the 2nd floor and €36.70 to the summit. That is €13.20 more for the top.

On a grey or windy day, the 2nd floor is the safer buy. The summit may be closed then.

Stairs or elevator

The stairs are cheaper, and the elevator is easier. The tower's site lists €14.80 for the stairs to the 2nd floor. The elevator to the 2nd floor is €23.50.

The stairs only go as far as the 2nd floor. For the summit you take the elevator from there. The stairs climb on this page is 704 steps, says its listing. It does not suit people with heart problems or vertigo.

Since 29 September 2026, the tower's site says, stairs tickets must also be booked ahead.

Eiffel Tower tour or ticket only

Take a guided tour if you want the story; take a plain ticket if you only want the view. A guide tells you how the tower was built and points out the sights below.

Guided tours on this page last 1 to 2.5 hours, say the listings. Most let you stay on after the guide leaves. The cheapest elevator tour with a guide starts from €30.

Compare the tickets and tours side by side

Tickets here cost more than the tower's own prices. You pay for a reserved time, a host or a guide, and often free cancellation. This table puts the official adult prices next to ours.

When to book and what to do if slots are gone

Book as soon as your dates are firm. The tower's site sells elevator tickets up to about 90 days ahead. Summit tickets can sell out on the first day of sale.

The tower releases some tickets again a few days before the date. If official slots are gone, the reserved-access and guided tickets on this page often still have room.

Buying Eiffel Tower tickets online

Buy on the tower's official site or from a known seller. The tower warns of scam ticket sites. On this page, every ticket links to its GetYourGuide listing.

Best time of day to go up

The tower is open every day from 9:30 am to late evening. Hours change by day and season, so check the calendar on the tower's site. The last elevator to the summit leaves at about 10:30 pm, the tower's rules say.

Pick a time for the light you want. Go by day for long views, or near dusk to see the city lights come on.

The Eiffel Tower at night

The tower stays open late, so you can go up after dark. Several tickets here add a Seine cruise as an option. Many Seine river cruises leave from the foot of the tower.

Before you go

Expect two security checks: one at the way in to the esplanade, one at the pillar. The tower's guide says to allow 15 to 20 minutes for the first.

There are no lockers or cloakroom. Oversized bags are refused. Leave knives, glass bottles and metal cans at home. Only folding strollers are allowed.

The tower is not in the Paris Museum Pass. For the metro, RER and buses, see getting around Paris.

Do skip-the-line tickets skip security?

No. A reserved time skips the ticket line, not the security checks. The tower publishes waiting times on its site, but we could not read them.

Eating at the tower

None of these tickets include a meal. The tower's own site lists its restaurants, booked separately. You may bring a small amount of food and drink.
